Adam and the woman’s job was to take care of the most beautiful garden ever planted, God’s garden. A garden that was filled with beautiful trees, bushes, and flowers, and probably babbling brooks as well. I believe that it was only appropriate that God created woman in the most beautiful place on earth.
Right in the middle of this garden were the two most beautiful trees ever planted — The Tree of Life and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. I’m sure nothing compared to those two trees.
God would join Adam and the woman in the cool of the day, walking and having fellowship with them. They wanted for nothing because God provided them with everything. There was only one simple command God gave to Adam, and we find that in Genesis chapter 2, verses 16-17:
“16 And the LORD God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.” (NRSV)
It was as simple as that, no other rules to obey. Do not eat from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. But what happens to you when you’re told you can’t have something? If you’re like me, and most everyone else, that’s the one thing you want the most. And Satan, knowing this, goes into temptation mode against us. Recall the old saying, “where good exists, evil can’t be far behind.”
So Adam and the woman lived in complete peace and harmony in God’s Kingdom here on earth. Little did they know that another Kingdom was already established on Earth and that they would become the victims of the greatest crime committed against all of mankind.
